On the night of July 3, an unusual scene observed in the sky over Angren, Tashkent region, surprised many citizens. Videos sent to Kun.uz showed bright objects moving in a straight line in the sky, which resembled a rocket or other unidentified flying objects.
The event occurred around 2:30 AM Tashkent time. The main part of the video was filmed in a mountainous area of Angren city. Observers said it was the first time they had seen such a phenomenon. Despite the late hour, a chain of glowing lights was moving through the sky, confusing many viewers.
The agency "Uzbekcosmos" provided an official explanation of this incident. Ahror Agzamov, Head of the Department of New Technology Implementation at the agency, explained the phenomenon from a scientific perspective in a conversation with Kun.uz.
According to him, the 25 bright points moving in a straight line shown in the video are most likely Starlink satellites belonging to SpaceX. He reported that on July 2 at 2:28 AM Eastern Time, SpaceX launched 27 Starlink satellites from a Florida launch site.
In the first few days after launch, these satellites travel in low Earth orbit — about 500 kilometers high — and are very close to each other. That’s why they appear from the Earth as a bright chain of lights. Later, each satellite disperses into its working orbit and becomes less visible.
According to the expert, these satellites are best seen after sunset but before complete darkness. While it’s already dark on Earth, the satellites in high orbit are still illuminated by the sun, making them shine. The Angren video was filmed near dawn, exactly matching this description.
Agzamov added:
"Starlink satellites travel at approximately 27,000 km per hour and make a full orbit around the Earth in about 90 minutes. The movement speed, linear structure, and brightness seen in the video are all standard and natural characteristics of low-orbit satellites."
As known, Starlink is a satellite internet system developed by SpaceX to provide high-speed internet worldwide, especially in areas with limited connectivity. The system operates hundreds of satellites simultaneously across various regions.
The scene in the Angren sky is another vivid reflection of this global space project. In the past, such phenomena were seen only in movies or observatories, but now even ordinary people can capture them on their phones and share them on social media.
Many people, not understanding what they saw, made various assumptions: some thought it was a rocket, others believed it was some dangerous technology. However, from a scientific standpoint, this is an open and transparent manifestation of technological advancement, showing how fast space science is developing in our society.
"Uzbekcosmos" noted that its mission includes informing the public about such events, providing scientific explanations, and preventing the spread of false information. This not only educates people but also encourages interest in science and builds public trust in technology. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
