The criminal incident that occurred in Tashkent region once again showed how serious the consequences of domestic violence can be. A problem in the relationship that began as a temporary argument, unfortunately, ended with the loss of a young person’s life.
According to the press service of the Supreme Court, a 37-year-old man living in Akkurgan district had a serious argument with his 23-year-old pregnant wife due to disagreements. What began as a usual misunderstanding or emotional loss of control ended in tragedy: in a fit of rage, the man struck his wife multiple times.
According to the investigation, the woman fell into a coma due to the injuries sustained and was under medical supervision in the intensive care unit for more than a week. However, despite all the medical efforts, she lost the fight for life — the young woman died in the hospital.
What is most heartbreaking is that the woman was pregnant — she was preparing for motherhood, about to enter a new phase of life. The man's actions not only ended his wife’s life but also destroyed the life of their unborn child.
According to the Supreme Court, the accused was found guilty under part 8, clauses “b” and “g” of article 126-1 of the Criminal Code — that is, "murder of a woman known by the perpetrator to be pregnant, committed on the basis of domestic violence."
The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison. The punishment is considered harsh by the public but also just. The state thus once again confirmed that it does not tolerate any form of domestic violence.
Such events highlight the importance of ensuring a healthy family environment, where respect, understanding, and communication between spouses are paramount.
Lawyers and psychologists emphasize the importance of not remaining indifferent to the early signs of domestic violence and of contacting law enforcement agencies. Every delayed day may cost a life.
Relevant institutions once again stress the need to strengthen the fight against domestic violence through special legislation and practical measures to prevent such crimes.
It should be noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has strengthened its legal framework for protecting women's rights and preventing domestic violence. However, such incidents show that this is still not sufficient in practice.
In conclusion, this tragedy has shaken not only one family but the entire society. Upbringing, legal awareness, and empathy — only through these can we prevent such events in the future. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
