The popular Wordle game is moving to television

The New York Times remains confident that its popular game Wordle is still a hit. On Monday, the publication announced that it will bring the mobile word game to NBC as a television show. The project will be hosted by "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie, with The Times and Jimmy Fallon serving as executive producers. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
Guthrie and Fallon announced the news on Monday's "Today" show, noting that the project has been in development for two and a half years. The show, scheduled to air next year, is described as "fast-paced" and a "family game." It will differ slightly from the mobile version, as the mobile game requires users to take their time to find the answers.
This marks the first time The Times has partnered with a television network to create entertainment programming. The publication is looking to stabilize its digital subscription business as print revenue declines. Wordle was created by developer Josh Wardle in October 2021 and was acquired by The NYT in early 2022.
Since the acquisition, the game has brought tens of millions of new users to the publication. According to NYT Games, users solved over 11 billion puzzles across all games last year. NBC will begin filming episodes of the show this summer and is currently looking for contestants.
