The Horticulture and Viticulture Research Institute named after academician M. Mirzaev has signed a memorandum of understanding with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the project "Managing Climate Risk in Central Asia."
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and will continue until 2028. The main goal of the cooperation is to reduce climate and natural disaster risks and to strengthen scientific and practical capacity for managing transboundary water resources.
In the Zarafshan River basin, modern, smart drip irrigation systems will be introduced and agriculture will be modernized. By 2025, it is planned to establish an intensive orchard on 10 hectares of land in the Navoi region and to implement an irrigation system.
The project includes goals such as the rational use of water resources, maintaining productivity during dry years, ensuring ecological balance, and increasing the efficiency of the agro-industrial sector.
According to specialists, this experience will be implemented as a model in other regions in the long term.
