The development of artificial intelligence in Uzbekistan depends not only on technology and infrastructure but also on qualified personnel. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized this during a videoconference meeting held on October 21.
According to the head of state, the foundation of artificial intelligence lies in mathematics and computer science. Therefore, the training of specialists in this field must start from school. Beginning next academic year, AI-related topics will be added to the “Informatics” curriculum. For this purpose, new-generation textbooks will be developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Additionally, at the “New Uzbekistan” University, 100 AI trainer-teachers will be prepared this year, and 1,300 more next year. These trainers will, in turn, teach informatics teachers in schools and higher education institutions.
Every year, the 100 best informatics teachers will be sent to countries that are advanced in artificial intelligence for professional training. They will be selected on the same level as top specialists of ministries and local administrations.
Moreover, as a logical continuation of the “One Million Uzbek Coders” initiative, a new program called “One Million AI Leaders” has been launched. This year, 100,000 young people will be trained, and next year — at least 500,000.
Those who achieve the best results, along with their mentors, will be rewarded. 500 students will receive laptops, 100 teachers will be awarded $1,000 each, and two educational institutions will be given electric cars.
As President Mirziyoyev noted, the development of artificial intelligence determines the future of the country. Therefore, every teacher working in this field must become a pillar of Uzbekistan’s intellectual progress.
