Starting from this year, May 5 will be celebrated as the “Day of Professions and Labor” in Uzbekistan.
This is stated in the presidential decree “On measures to implement reforms in the system of vocational education.” According to the document, various events will be held within the framework of the new holiday to enhance the prestige of professions among young people, foster motivation for work, and promote vocational education.
The decree outlines the main goals for developing the vocational education system until 2030. In particular, the number of technical schools offering international and joint educational programs will reach 250. Additionally, the share of 9th-grade graduates covered by vocational education will increase from the current 29 percent to 50 percent.
Teachers will also receive greater opportunities — the number of educators participating in qualification improvement and internship programs abroad will rise from 100 to 2,500.
Furthermore, 10th-grade students will be allowed to transfer to technical schools to continue their studies. This will enable young people to acquire practical professional skills earlier.
Starting in 2026, the “Day of Professions and Labor” will be celebrated annually on a large scale. According to experts, this initiative will increase youth interest in career choices and elevate attitudes toward work to a new level.
