New gas flow detected on the Ustyurt Plateau

A new flow of natural gas has been recorded at the Shagirlik–Lower Jurassic No. 2 exploration well in the area of the well-known “Muynoq” field on the Ustyurt Plateau. This was reported by the UzA news agency.

According to reports, geologists identified gas-rich layers at a depth of about 5,000 meters. Drilling operations at the well were successfully completed on January 10, 2026.

Geological exploration and drilling under the project are being carried out jointly by Uzbekgeofizika JSC and the State Institute for Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields. Experts noted that the discovery will significantly expand prospects for developing the region’s hydrocarbon resources.

In addition, according to the plan, two more exploration wells—No. 3 and No. 4—will begin drilling in the near future. This will further strengthen Uzbekistan’s energy capacity, help meet domestic demand, and increase export potential.

In short, the new discoveries at the “Muynoq” field will not only improve economic prospects but also enhance Uzbekistan’s standing in the global gas market. Experts believe there is considerable room for more efficient and sustainable development in the sector.
