Weather: heavy rain in mid-January, sharp cold snap at month’s end

In the first days of the week, relatively warm weather is expected across the country. According to the synoptic situation, on January 13–14, a warm air flow moving in from Turkmenistan will bring a spring-like feel to some areas. In particular, temperatures in the southern regions may rise to +20°C.

However, from midweek the weather will change sharply. Due to a cyclone moving in from neighboring Turkmenistan, very heavy precipitation is forecast for January 15–16 in Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Jizzakh and Tashkent regions.

Experts warn that heavy precipitation, mainly in the form of rain, may cause water accumulation in some areas and even lead to local flooding and inundation. Therefore, residents and relevant services are advised to take precautionary measures.

The third ten-day period of January is expected to start with quite cold weather. In particular, a sharp drop in temperatures is forecast across many parts of the country on January 21. From January 22, daytime temperatures may also fall below zero.

According to meteorological data, the coldest days of the month may fall on January 25–26. On these days in Tashkent, the minimum nighttime temperature is expected to drop below -10°C. Abnormally severe cold is also possible in the northern areas of Karakalpakstan.

Experts urge the public to be prepared for abrupt weather changes and to be cautious, especially when planning travel and daily activities.
