The US Department of Justice has formally charged two Uzbek and Russian citizens with filing false voter registration applications in Florida. They were arrested, it was reported.
The case allegedly involved 33-year-old Uzbek citizen Sanjar Jamilov and 45-year-old Russian citizen Dmitry Shushlebin. According to the investigation, they agreed to file 132 false voter registration applications in Pinellas County in February and March 2023.
According to the conclusion of federal authorities, similar seals, duplicate dates of birth, addresses and consecutive social security numbers were found on the submitted documents. This indicates forgery in the documents.
If convicted, Jamilov and Shushlebin could face up to five years in prison. The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Florida State Police.
In addition, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported in November 2024 that 975 Uzbek citizens could face deportation. In total, more than 1.4 million illegal immigrants are scheduled to be removed from the country. So far, no arrests have been made, but a final decision on deportation has been made.
