The speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Northern Cyprus on the occasion of "July 20 – Peace and Freedom Day" became an important event not only for the Turkish Cypriot community but for the entire Turkic world, reports haqqin.az.
Speaking at the ceremony, Erdogan emphasized that in recent years the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has further strengthened its position in the international arena. He particularly noted that the Turkish Cypriot community officially participates as a representative in such authoritative organizations as the Organization of Turkic States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Economic Cooperation Organization.
Especially, Erdogan recalled the last summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization held in the city of Khankendi, where the flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus proudly waved alongside the flags of other states. The Turkish leader noted that through this event, efforts aimed at restoring historical justice regarding Cyprus have risen to a new stage.
In his speech, President Erdogan especially expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the entire Azerbaijani people. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s open support in the struggle for Cyprus, its firm position at international conferences, and loyalty to the principle of Turkic brotherhood.
According to analysts, such relations are important not only in the context of the Cyprus issue but also for strengthening strategic cooperation among Turkic states. In new political and economic conditions, the unity of Erdogan and Aliyev, in turn, serves to ensure peace and stability in the region.
