A Sydney man discovered 102 venomous snakes in his backyard. He immediately contacted Reptile Relocation, an organization specializing in reptile capture.

The snakes had nested in a pile of fallen leaves, and their presence was only noticed after one of them bit the homeowner’s dog. According to Reptile Relocation director Corey Kerevaro, the number of snakes was so large that extra hunters had to be called in to assist.

In just three hours, specialists captured 102 red-bellied black snakes. These reptiles are native to Australia, and fully grown specimens can reach two meters in length. Typically, this species is not aggressive and prefers to avoid human interaction.

The venom of red-bellied black snakes contains neurotoxins, myotoxins, and coagulants. While it can cause serious medical issues, no fatal cases have been recorded.

All captured snakes will be released near the Royal National Park. According to the Australian Museum, these snakes sometimes gather in small groups during the breeding season, usually not exceeding six individuals.

— Hunters have never found so many red-bellied black snakes in one place before, — said Corey Kerevaro.
