The most bizarre organism on Earth, unlike any other living creature, has been discovered

Scottish researchers have cast doubt on the idea of ancient life on Earth. They have studied a strange organism called prototaxites and concluded that it does not belong to any previously known group.
What are prototaxites?
Prototaxites are mysterious organisms that lived about 400 million years ago and grew up to 8 meters in length. They were found in fossils as early as the 19th century, but scientists initially thought they were trees. Later, speculation arose that they could be fungi or algae. However, recent microscopic and chemical analyses conducted by scientists from the University of Edinburgh have refuted these hypotheses.
"We have not been able to link them to any known class. Prototaxites do not resemble fungi, plants or other multicellular organisms. They have a unique cellular structure," the study concludes.
The most mysterious life form
Experts believe that prototaxites may be a unique eukaryotic life form. They lived in swampy landscapes of the Silurian and Devonian periods and were real giants among the ferns and sedges that existed at that time.
The role and disappearance of prototaxites
Scientists do not have precise information about what role these organisms played in ancient ecosystems. Perhaps they appeared as part of evolution and then disappeared. But their existence once again proves how unusual and diverse the development of life can be.
Recent studies of prototaxites show that there are still unexplored mysterious pages of life on Earth. This may open up new directions for future archaeological and biological research. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
