Moscow once again clearly stated its conditions for ending the war in Ukraine, reports magyarnemzet.hu. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in his latest interview with this newspaper, named the lifting of all sanctions imposed against Russia, the return of frozen assets, and the cessation of all claims as the “main conditions” for a “legal agreement.”
Lavrov emphasized that Moscow does not intend to end the war without eliminating its “main causes.” The Kremlin’s list of demands still includes “demilitarization,” “denazification,” and a neutral status for Ukraine. In addition, the Russian side is demanding that the international community officially recognize Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions as part of Russia. According to Lavrov, the “referendums” held in these territories in the autumn of 2022 serve as the basis for this.
However, international organizations reject these demands. The UN and international experts have stated that “referendums” held in the occupied and war-affected territories of Ukraine cannot be considered an expression of the people's will and have no legal consequences.
Moscow’s position is causing serious debate and objections on the international stage. The possibilities for ending the war through diplomatic means are being discussed in various formats, but the sharp differences between Russia's demands and the positions of Western countries still prevent the conflict from ending.
