Electricity consumption in Uzbekistan will double by 2035
According to Boston Consulting Group forecasts, by 2035 electricity consumption in Uzbekistan will nearly double—from 68 billion to 123 billion kilowatt-hours. This was announced by BCG managing director Igor Alekseev at Investors Day.

The main growth will be driven by industry, the residential sector, transport, and digital infrastructure. Industrial enterprises' consumption is expected to increase from 27 billion to 56 billion kilowatt-hours.

Household consumption will reach 28 billion kilowatt-hours from 19 billion, and the transition to electric heating will add about another 10 billion kilowatt-hours. As a result of the electrification of transport, consumption will increase from 1.6 billion to 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours, and the development of data centers is expected to raise it to 9 billion kilowatt-hours.

To meet the growing demand, there are plans to expand energy capacity—nearly 34 gigawatts of new capacity will be commissioned, mainly based on solar and wind energy. In addition, the construction of 9 thousand kilometers of power transmission lines, more than 30 new high-voltage substations, and about 800 distribution transformer units is planned.

According to Alekseev, the government has approved a strategic plan for developing the grid through 2035. As part of this program, the launch of a wholesale electricity market by 2028 is planned, as well as the transition to an hourly pricing system, the introduction of RAB tariffs, involvement of private operators in network management, and preparations to take major companies public.

It was reported that the nuclear power plant will supply electricity to three regions of Uzbekistan.
