Poland Defeats Malta to Retain Second Place

On November 18, 2025, the Polish national team defeated Malta 3-2 in an away match. Under the leadership of Jan Urban, the team lost their lead several times during the game but eventually secured the victory.

This result allowed Poland to retain second place in Group G and advance to the playoff stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The visitors started the match actively, taking immediate control of the ball.

The first dangerous moments were created by Lewandowski and Zalewski, who tested Bonello's goalkeeping skills. Poland opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.

Piotr Zielinski delivered a free kick from the left wing, and Robert Lewandowski headed the ball into the left corner of the net. However, Malta quickly responded.

Scerri made a run down the flank and crossed the ball to Paul Mbong, who deceived the goalkeeper. The ball then returned to Irvin Cardona, who scored on his second attempt.

In the second half, the Poles intensified their attacks. Lewandowski and Kaminski delivered consecutive shots, but they failed to find the target.

In the 59th minute, the visitors regained the lead. Lewandowski entered the penalty area from the left, but his shot was blocked by Mens.

The ball rebounded to Pawel Wszołek, who struck into the near corner from the goal area. However, the situation quickly changed.

After a video review, the referee disallowed Świderski’s goal and awarded a penalty to Malta for a foul on Cardona. Teddy Teuma struck the ball into the left corner, leaving Drągowski with no chance.

The end of the match saw attacks from both sides, but the three points were crucial for Poland. Focusing on wing play, Poland encouraged Skóraś and substitute Grosicki to take active roles.

In the 85th minute, the visitors finally secured the win. Zielinski found space in front of the penalty area and took a long-range shot.

The ball deflected off Mens’ leg and rolled into the right corner of the net along the arc of the line. Malta attempted to attack in the final minutes.

Paul Mbong and Overend made dangerous passes, and Satariano battled in the penalty area, but the score remained unchanged. Poland claimed victory and maintained their hold on second place.
