An Omsk court has sentenced an Uzbek citizen to four years in a high-security penal colony. The man was found guilty of assaulting a passerby and setting a dog to attack the victim.
According to the first-instance court decision, the convict is also required to pay nearly half a million rubles in moral damages to the victim. An appeal filed with the regional court was unsuccessful, and the cassation instance upheld the verdict, rejecting claims that the sentence was excessively harsh.
According to the investigation, on the night of July 9, 2023, a 36-year-old Uzbek citizen attacked a stranger with a stick and by kicking him in an allotment garden in Omsk. A worker hired by the property owner also joined the attack.
When the victim tried to flee, the property owner set a dog on him, which bit the victim at least twenty times. The man sustained numerous injuries, including a fractured skull, classified as severe bodily harm.
The defendant partially admitted his guilt, claiming that the incident occurred as part of efforts to protect the property against theft. However, the court found that the defendant, alongside others, had intentionally caused severe bodily harm.
A second individual involved in the attack managed to escape and remains at large, not yet held accountable. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
