A court sentenced former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to five years in prison. He pleaded guilty to laundering illegal proceeds and entered into a procedural agreement with the prosecutor’s office. This was reported by podrobno.uz. reports .
In addition to the prison term, Garibashvili was also fined 1 million lari. All assets seized during the investigation—including large amounts of cash and valuable items—were confiscated in favor of the state.
The verdict concluded a large-scale anti-corruption operation that began in October 2025. At the time, it was reported that searches at 24 locations, including the homes of Garibashvili and former State Security Service chief Grigol Liluashvili, uncovered more than $7 million in cash.
The list of confiscated property also includes around 200 pieces of jewelry and expensive watches, collectible paintings, more than 100 electronic devices, and thousands of pages of classified documents.
According to investigators, between 2013 and 2024, while holding senior government posts, Garibashvili secretly engaged in commercial activity and listed the proceeds in his declarations as “gifts from relatives.” It is reported that more than 230 prosecutors and special service officers were involved in the case, and the evidence collected forced him to reach a deal with investigators.
