US introduces visa bond of up to $15,000 for citizens of three Central Asian countries

As a pilot, the US Department of State is launching a new program and may require a bond of up to $15,000 when issuing visas to citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Citizens of Uzbekistan are not included in this procedure. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .

The new requirements apply to B1/B2 visas—applications for business and tourist travel. For Turkmen citizens, the rule took effect on January 1, 2026, while for Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan it is scheduled to be introduced on January 21.

Under the program terms, US consulates may ask an applicant during the visa interview to post a bond of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000. The bond amount is set on a case-by-case basis, taking migration risk factors into account.

In addition to the financial bond, extra restrictions are предусмотрены: holders of such visas may enter and leave the US only through three international airports. US officials emphasize that the measure is a temporary pilot, aimed at assessing how effective financial guarantees are in migration control.
