Candidates for the Word of 2025 Announced

The Gramota.ru portal has announced the brightest expressions that could potentially become the Word of 2025. The list includes several phrases derived from youth slang and internet culture.

Among them are terms like 'pupupu' (an exclamation used for awkwardness or when at a loss for words), 'red-flag' (a warning sign), 'sigma' (an independent individual), 'imba' (an extraordinary thing), 'slop' (bad content), 'brainrot' (being overly focused on a single meme or thought), and 'prompt' (a command for artificial intelligence). Additionally, words such as 'zoomers,' 'highlight,' 'manifestation,' 'tired-tired,' and 'limb' are also featured among the favorites.

According to the organizers, the nominees were selected from words frequently encountered on social media, memes, and news, reflecting the overall mood of the year. The winner will be announced after being reviewed by linguists.
