President Donald Trump of the United States has decided to impose a complete ban on citizens from several countries from entering the United States. According to an official statement released by the White House, this restriction applies to citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria, Laos, and Sierra Leone.
The White House administration emphasized that this measure was taken to strengthen national security. Officials argue that the listed countries do not fully meet the security standards practiced in the US in terms of verifying individuals, validating documents, and sharing information. Therefore, it was deemed necessary to take strict measures to mitigate potential risks.
It has been reported that this issue was first brought to the agenda in early December. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem proposed the complete entry ban for citizens from several countries following a meeting with the president. As a result, this initiative was formalized into a practical decision.
At the same time, the approach toward some countries was eased. Specifically, regulations were reviewed for Turkmen citizens, allowing them to enter the US on non-immigrant visas. This demonstrates Washington's case-by-case security assessment for each nation.
Experts believe the new restrictions could trigger international discussions. However, for the White House, national security remains a priority. In short, the Trump administration once again openly displayed its "security first" principle.
