Amazon plans major investment in OpenAI

Amazon plans to make a significant investment in OpenAI

Amazon Corporation is considering investing $10 billion in OpenAI, the company behind the development of the ChatGPT chatbot. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources. Currently, negotiations between the parties are in the early stages, and the exact terms of the agreement have not been officially confirmed.

According to reports, OpenAI has suggested that its valuation could reach $1 trillion and is preparing for an IPO — an initial public offering. If the deal goes through, OpenAI may purchase Amazon’s specialized artificial intelligence chips named Trainium to use in training neural networks.

It is noted that these chips are already being actively used by major technology companies such as Databricks, Ricoh, and NinjaTech AI. This indicates Amazon’s strong push to promote its artificial intelligence infrastructure in the market.

At the same time, OpenAI is also exploring the possibility of offering a corporate version of ChatGPT to Amazon. However, no final decision has been made yet regarding the full integration of the chatbot into Amazon’s marketplace or service systems.

It should be noted that earlier, Microsoft acquired a 27% stake in OpenAI, securing the exclusive right to provide chatbot models to its customers via its cloud platforms. This move reflects the growing intensity of competition in the artificial intelligence market.

Experts believe that if Amazon also makes a significant investment in OpenAI, the balance of power in the global AI market could shift to a new level.
