
Law enforcement authorities in the United States are continuing their investigation into a deadly shooting at Brown University. According to Reuters, the suspect responsible for the deaths of two students — Uzbek national Muhammadaziz Umurzakov and American citizen Ella Cook — has yet to be identified.
During a press briefing, officials stated that they have not yet been able to determine the identity of the attacker. To accelerate the investigation, police have released surveillance footage to the public. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha emphasized that the individual captured in the video is believed to be responsible for the shooting, though their motives remain unknown.
Reuters reports that the suspect's ongoing evasion has caused significant concern among the public. The tragic incident claimed the lives of two students while injuring eight others to varying degrees. Seven of the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, with one reportedly in critical condition.
The administration at Brown University has announced heightened security measures following the incident. Access to campus buildings has been temporarily restricted, additional security posts have been established, and ensuring the safety of students and staff has been prioritized.
Reports indicate that the shooting took place on December 14 at the university's engineering campus. According to police, the attacker entered an unlocked building during an ongoing examination and opened fire inside a lecture hall using a 9mm handgun. The suspect then fled the scene.
At present, investigative authorities are utilizing all available resources to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the university community has expressed condolences for the victims and hopes for swift justice to be served.
