Why did record breweries close in Great Britain?

In 2025, about 140 breweries in the UK ceased operations. This is the highest closure rate observed in more than 50 years - since 1974, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Commenting on this situation, the Independent Brewers Association (SIBA) stated that despite strong demand over the past year, breweries have closed at an unprecedented rate. According to SIBA head Andy Slee, many factories operating in almost all regions of the country are leaving the market.
According to experts, the main reason for this situation is a sharp increase in taxes levied by the state. The increase in excise taxes on alcoholic beverages and value-added tax reduces the financial capabilities of producers.
