Suicide record among schoolchildren in Japan

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Welfare of Japan, the number of suicides among primary and secondary school students in the country reached a historic high in 2025. This year, 532 schoolchildren took their lives, TASS reports.
This figure is the highest in official statistics since 1980. According to the data, girls committed suicide more often than boys. The highest number of cases among children was registered among high school students (349 cases).
At the same time, suicide rates among the general population of the country are showing a downward trend. In total, in 2025, fewer than 20,000 people in Japan ended their lives dishonestly.
