Director Sarik Andreasyan admitted that he hates Andrei Tarkovsky’s films and does not like auteur cinema in general. A video of his speech was published by the Telegram channel "Ostorozhno, Moscow".
"I hate Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky is awful. His cinema is degrading and outdated by 60 years. If you want to be poor, irrelevant, and miserable filmmakers, go ahead", Andreasyan said.
He made these remarks during a lecture at Moscow Film College No. 40, where students were outraged by his criticism of auteur films and the movie "Anora". The director of "Onegin" tried to explain that festival films are useless because they do not generate significant revenue. He also called "Anora" a marginal film.
The students strongly disagreed with him, leading to a heated debate. According to "Ostorozhno, News", Andreasyan eventually left the lecture early as students laughed and applauded his departure.
Moscow Film College confirmed the incident, clarifying that the meeting was not a public event but rather an initiative of specific individuals.
