Because of Iran’s attacks, the world may be left without internet

Iran has begun attacking telecommunications companies. If such attacks increase and continue, the world will face very serious consequences:

- Internet service quality will decline worldwide. Increased ping, unstable connections, and disruptions in local services;

- Attacks on cloud computing: email, cloud services, and applications like Google, Microsoft, or Apple may stop working;

- Disruption of traffic routes. The internet will begin bypassing damaged nodes, which will lead to slowdowns across the globe;

- Risk of attacks on submarine cables. This is critically important infrastructure. Damaging several such lines is a real global problem. The fact is that dozens of underwater cables pass through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, carrying 17–30% of global internet traffic and connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa. Damage to these cables could lead to serious consequences: internet slowdowns, disruptions in banking, cloud services, and artificial intelligence platforms.

If Iran’s systematic attacks continue, the world will face unprecedented consequences.

Iranian missiles struck the headquarters of Batelco in the city of Hamala, Bahrain. Batelco, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, owns Amazon Web Services servers. This also directly affects networks in Central Asia.
