AMD Expands FSR 4.1 Technology for Older Radeon Users

AMD is preparing to bring its FSR 4 AI-based image upscaling technology to older generation graphics cards. According to company Vice President Jack Huynh, the FSR 4.1 version will be released for Radeon RX 7000 (RDNA 3) series graphics cards in July, and for the Radeon RX 6000 (RDNA 2) series in early 2027. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Initially, FSR 4 technology was intended only for the Radeon RX 9000 series based on the RDNA 4 architecture. This was due to its reliance on FP8 calculations, which provide high precision in AI-assisted image processing. However, the leakage of source code and the availability of an INT8 format model prompted AMD to ensure compatibility for older GPUs as well.

Currently, enthusiasts are testing FSR 4 on older cards using unofficial tools. According to test results, performance on the RX 6000 series may drop by 10–20% compared to FSR 3, but image quality is significantly higher. This is considered an acceptable compromise for users.

AMD plans to introduce the FSR 4.1 version specifically. This update includes important improvements such as reducing image blurring, preserving details, and increasing the clarity of distant objects. This step will allow older Radeon owners to significantly extend their graphics capabilities.
