Ecological life may return to the bottom of the Aral Sea: giant reed inspires hope
The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change announced that new scientific experiments have been launched to restore life on the dried-up bottom of the Aral Sea. Experts are working to introduce promising plant species to ensure biological restoration and ecological stability in the region.

Arundo Donax — giant reed as new hope

According to the results of field research, one of the most promising plants from an agricultural and ecological point of view is the giant reed (arundo donax). This plant is usually known for its preference for humid environments, but it also shows good adaptation to saline, dry and complex ecosystem conditions.

According to the ministry, in the area selected for the experiment, groundwater is located at a depth of about 2 meters. Surprisingly, the roots of arundo donax reach this depth in the first year itself, allowing them to grow and develop sustainably even without irrigation.

Scientific approach to ecosystem restoration

These tests are of great importance not only for the field of botany, but also for the entire ecosystem. In recent years, the Aral Sea region has been experiencing serious environmental problems, such as dust storms, drought, and a decline in biodiversity. Giant reed is seen as one of the solutions to these problems.

Its sustainable growth is expected to help block dust and salt particles in the region, while also preserving the strength of the soil. This may become the basis for large-scale greening programs in the coming years.

On a scientific basis - towards large-scale practical work

The Ministry of Ecology, emphasizing the scientific significance of these experiments, announced that in the future, based on the results of the experiment, large-scale planting of seedlings will be carried out in the Aral Sea region. Such work can have a positive impact not only on nature protection, but also on the lifestyle and health of the local population.
