Severe fires are spreading in Spain due to climate change

Forest fires that have been raging in Spain since early August have turned into the most devastating disaster in the past twenty years. According to “Evronews,” at least four people have died as a result, while 37 individuals were detained on suspicion of being connected to the fires.

The most severe situation has been recorded in the Galicia autonomous region, where more than 155,000 hectares have burned. This is the largest fire since 2006. In August alone, wildfires across the country damaged more than 350,000 hectares.

Currently, firefighting efforts are underway at 21 different fire locations across Spain. In the northern regions, local firefighters are being assisted by experts who arrived from Germany.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez personally visited the affected areas and stated that the main cause of the tragedy is climate change and extreme heat waves.
