In Andijan region, a completely unexpected incident occurred among the population. A pensioner, a 67‑year‑old local resident, was playing cards and dice with friends at home, engaging in gambling. This situation was exposed by law enforcement officers during a special raid.
According to official information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service, the citizen had turned his residence into an underground “casino.” There, he organized card games, dice games and other forms of gambling, attracting citizens to participate. These actions of the pensioner, intending to make money, are considered illegal.
During the operational measure, law enforcement officers conducted a search at his home. During the search, they discovered 4,535,000 sum in local currency, as well as 300 US dollars and an additional 550,000 sum in cash. All these funds were documented by protocol and confiscated as evidence.
According to legislation, Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan — “Organization and conduct of gambling and other risk‑based games” — prohibits such activity. A person engaged in this activity may face a large fine or imprisonment. On the basis of this article, a criminal case was initiated against the pensioner.
At present, investigative authorities are conducting extensive investigative actions. During this process, individuals who participated in gambling games at the pensioner’s home are being identified. They will also be interviewed during the investigation and receive appropriate legal evaluation.
Organizing gambling games is not only against the law but also poses a serious threat to society. Such games often lead people to financial difficulties, family conflicts, and even social degradation. Therefore, law enforcement agencies are waging a strict fight against similar cases.
It is notable that the pensioner regularly ran his home as a “casino.” One day, neighbours even noticed noise and activity in the yard and reported this to the appropriate authorities. During the inspection, the legal violation was discovered.
Lawyers emphasize that a policy of “no tolerance” must be pursued regarding such offenses. If a citizen illegally conducts such activity, appropriate measures should be taken. Especially if this activity threatens public order and becomes widespread — penalties increase.
The rise of interest in gambling among the population, especially older people, is a serious signal for society. This phenomenon should be regarded not only as a legal issue but also as a social problem. Such mistakes can lead to more serious consequences in the future.
At present, the pensioner is held in a pre‑trial detention centre. All evidence confirming his guilt has been collected and is being prepared for submission to the court. If the court finds him guilty, he may be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
Such cases should serve as a lesson for society. Gambling leads a person not to success, but to ruin. State bodies continue to take strict measures within the law against such activities. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
