Penalties Proposed for Car Sellers Concealing Odometer Data

In Uzbekistan, penalties may be introduced for concealing the actual mileage of vehicles during sales. A draft law addressing this issue has been published by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis for public discussion.

The discussions will continue until November 20. In recent years, cases have increased where sellers deliberately reduce odometer readings to sell vehicles at a higher price than their actual value.

To prevent such fraudulent practices, the government is proposing to introduce administrative liability for concealing such information. For this purpose, it is planned to add Article 121-1 to the Code of Administrative Responsibility.

This article stipulates penalties for sellers who fail to disclose altered mileage or odometer replacements to buyers. If a seller does not notify that odometer data has been changed or the device has been replaced, they could face a fine ranging from 10 to 15 base calculation values (from 4.12 million soms to 6.18 million soms).
