Nikolay Pisarev, a member of the Russia national team’s coaching staff, commented on how to assess the team’s current level. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
According to the specialist, the simplest indicator of a national team’s level is the FIFA ranking. Pisarev stressed that the team should give fans a celebration and positive emotions, adding that although Russia have been suspended from international competition for nearly four years, their ranking, in his view, has not fallen but has even risen slightly.
At the same time, he admitted that it is difficult to accurately measure the team’s true strength through friendlies: in official matches, psychological pressure, responsibility and demands are completely different.
As a reminder, Russia have not taken part in international tournaments since February 2022. Valery Karpin’s side played their most recent friendlies in November.
