President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed an important decree on December 24 to determine the working and non-working days for 2026. This document is aimed at ensuring a more convenient organization of holidays, providing full-fledged rest for citizens, and maintaining a balance between work and leisure.
According to the decree, regardless of whether employees work a five-day or six-day workweek, additional days off have been introduced for all workers. This decision is especially beneficial for those planning to spend holidays with family or traveling.
New Year – Starting with an extended holiday
At the start of 2026, January 2 (Friday) has been designated as an additional day off. As a result, the New Year holiday will be extended, allowing people to start the year in a calm and positive mood.
Spring – A season full of holidays
The spring months will also be joyful with additional days off. May 28 and 29 (Thursday and Friday) have been declared as additional non-working days, creating a chance for a four-day continuous rest at the end of May.
Additionally, since March 8 — International Women's Day — falls on a Sunday, the day off will be shifted to Monday, March 9. This will provide a three-day break from March 7 to March 9.
The spring of 2026 will also be memorable for its unique calendar alignment. The Navruz holiday, celebrated on March 21, falls on a Saturday, and the day off will be shifted to Monday, March 23. Interestingly, initial calculations indicate that Navruz will coincide with the end of the sacred Ramadan month and Eid al-Fitr. This alignment will turn the end of March into a true holiday marathon.
Summer and Independence Day
At the end of summer, an additional day off is also planned. August 31 (Monday) has been allocated as a day off, creating a four-day holiday from August 29 to September 1 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's Independence.
Eid al-Adha will also provide one of the longest breaks. According to the decree, there will be a four-day holiday from May 28 to May 31 due to this occasion.
Autumn and year-end
The autumn months will have fewer extended holidays. Teacher and Mentor Day (October 1) and Constitution Day (December 8) will remain as single-day celebrations.
However, the year-end will again delight citizens. New Year celebrations will last for four days, from December 31 to January 3. To ensure this uninterrupted holiday, December 12 (Saturday) will be a working day, shifted to December 31 (Thursday).
Conclusion
The 2026 calendar stands out for its well-thought-out distribution of holidays and days off. These decisions provide Uzbek citizens with multiple opportunities throughout the year for extended holidays, travel, and spending quality time with family. In short, 2026 will be a very convenient year for planning vacations.
