The first half was marked by physical battles and cautious play, with few clear chances. Rayo Vallecano enjoyed more possession and mainly built attacks down the flanks. Getafe responded by relying on set pieces and aerial duels.
The opener came after the break. After a pass from Unai López, De Frutos struck the ball first time on the volley; goalkeeper David Soria made a mistake and the ball ended up in the net.
In the second half, Getafe increased the pressure: the visitors became more active and delivered more passes and crosses into the box. Rayo Vallecano tried to protect their edge through ball control to keep the tempo from dropping.
Late on, the referee added six minutes, and the decisive moment came in the 98th minute. Milla sent the ball into the area, Mauro Arambarri won the aerial and headed home accurately — 1–1.
