Galatasaray and Fenerbahce Players Face Prison Time for Match-Fixing

Two footballers from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in Turkey are at risk of imprisonment over a match-fixing case, according to euro-football.ru. reports .

The case concerns Galatasaray representative Metehan Baltaci and Fenerbahce captain Mert Hakan Yandas. Baltaci faces up to 13 years in prison, while Yandas could be sentenced to up to 17 years.

According to Sabah newspaper, Baltaci placed bets on Galatasaray matches at least twice. Although he did not start in the matches, he was on the roster, which indicates that the player had the potential to indirectly influence the outcome.

Under current Turkish law, a footballer should have informed bookmakers of their professional athlete status in advance. However, it is noted that he failed to comply with this requirement.
