The Iranian national team, which prematurely qualified for the 2026 World Cup, is considering the possibility of not participating in the tournament. This was announced by the head of the country's football federation, Mehdi Toj. reports .
In a television appearance, Toj stated that the issue of going to the World Cup has become complicated against the backdrop of recent events, particularly the US attack. He emphasized that the final decision must be made by sports officials.
According to the draw results, Iran is scheduled to play all three group stage matches on US soil: against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt.
There is also a possibility of a clash between Iran and the USA in the 1/16 final stage of the playoffs. This situation could create additional organizational problems for FIFA.
For information, the national championship in Iran has been suspended until further notice. A number of legionnaires have already left the country or are looking for ways to leave.
