Microsoft has introduced an artificial intelligence system called MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator, which may become the foundation of a new revolution in medical diagnostics. According to Wired, this innovation managed to make diagnoses four times more accurately than a team of doctors.
It is noted that this innovative system can not only quickly and efficiently assess a patient's condition, but also reduce medical examination costs by 20 percent. The head of Microsoft's artificial intelligence division, Mustafa Suleyman, described this project as "a real step towards medical intelligence." MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator combines many leading language models — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, LLaMA, and Grok — and operates on the principle of expert collaboration.
The system was tested based on 304 clinical cases published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It analyzed patient symptoms, prescribed tests, and made diagnoses just like doctors. According to the results, the accuracy of MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator was 80 percent, while for doctors this indicator was only 20 percent. In addition, it is noted that artificial intelligence was able to choose cheap but effective diagnostic methods.
The project is led by former leading specialists from Google. Microsoft has recruited them to its team, delivering a strong blow to competing tech giants. According to company vice president Dominic King, the next step will be to test this technology in real medical conditions.
However, experts point out that the results should be treated with caution. The fact is that during the experiment, doctors did not use all their additional auxiliary tools. In addition, it remains unclear how artificial intelligence takes into account the individual characteristics of patients and existing conditions.
At present, it is unknown whether Microsoft will bring this system to the mass market. However, the possibility of integrating MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator into Bing or other medical platforms is being considered. According to Microsoft, such advanced technologies will help significantly reduce healthcare costs in the future.
In the near future, artificial intelligence may fundamentally change the healthcare sector. But like any advanced technology, its real impact will only become clear over time. Undoubtedly, Microsoft’s initiative may open a new era in world medicine. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
