Uzbekistan Customs Committee comments on rumors of border posts closing

It was reported that the operation of border posts in Uzbekistan has not been suspended and they continue to work as usual. This was stated by Customs Committee press secretary Husan Tangriyev. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .

According to him, in December President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a document to launch a pilot project to optimize customs control. The pilot will be implemented at six border posts through the end of 2026, and as part of it the Border Service will carry out certain stages of the vehicle inspection process.

The posts in question are “Bobotog‘”, “Uchturg‘on”, “Pap”, “Ravat”, “Rishton” and “Bekobod-avto”. The agency emphasized that there are no plans to close the posts and that they are operating in the previous mode.

Within the pilot, if goods requiring customs clearance are identified, border guards will call Customs Committee officers. In addition, during passport control, information on potential violations will be forwarded to customs authorities.

Data exchange between the two services regarding vehicles under customs control is also expected to be established. In addition, the document stipulates suspending the operation of six posts for remote electronic declaration in certain regions: staff there will be transferred to a single Customs Clearance Center or reassigned to other posts.
