It has been revealed that Oleksandr Yanukovych, the son of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, is making a lot of money by trading coal from Russian-controlled Ukrainian territories. According to an investigation published by the publication "Vaznye istorii" on February 4, structures associated with Yanukovych exported almost half a million tons of coal in 2023-2024. The proceeds from the coal were transferred to offshore accounts in the British Virgin Islands, and the products were mainly delivered to Turkey and other countries.
Coal trading scheme linked to Yanukovych
According to journalists, the center of this scheme is a company called "Energoresurs". It is registered in the city of Rostov-on-Don and is engaged in the purchase and sale of coal for export from mines in the Donetsk region. The company purchases coal from Donskie Ugli, Vostokugol, Komsomolets Donbassa, Zhdanovskaya, Impex-Don and other mines.
The owners and directors of Energoresurs are Alexei Ivanov and Pavel Zemlyakov. They previously worked under Alexander Yanukovych in various legal and financial companies. In 2023, Energoresurs received a loan of $ 7 million from the Cypriot company Sl Holdings Limited. This company is managed by Eduard Slinko, a former employee of Yanukovych's MAKO holding.
Countries to which coal is exported
Due to European Union sanctions, since 2022, Energoresurs has been supplying coal mainly to Turkey. The goods are shipped to Turkey by rail and sea transport. The receiving company is Energy Union, registered in the British Virgin Islands, and in 2024 the company sold one ton of coal for an average of 5,700 rubles.
According to experts, the low price will allow minimizing export duties, and then Energy Union can sell coal anywhere at a higher price. Such a scheme is logical only if these companies are interconnected.
Until 2022, Bulgaria, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Romania were also among the countries buying coal from Energoresurs. According to journalists' calculations, the company earned 3.5 billion rubles in revenue in 2021-2023. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
