Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported US President Donald Trump's proposal to halve the defense spending of Russia, the United States and China. According to him, Moscow is ready to negotiate on this issue.

"We can reach an agreement with the United States, we are not against it. I think this idea is good: the United States and Russia will reduce military spending by 50 percent. If it wants, China can also join this process," Putin said in an interview with VGTRK television channel.

Trump plans to hold talks on nuclear weapons and defense

In mid-February, Donald Trump announced his intention to discuss nuclear arms control and military budget cuts with Russia and China.

"When we get everything sorted out, one of the first meetings will be with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. I would like to say that we will cut our military budget in half," Trump said.

The US president also believes that countries "do not have to develop new nuclear weapons." In his opinion, existing nuclear weapons are sufficient, and the funds saved from these expenditures can be directed to other, more effective directions.

The issue of reducing military spending between Russia and the United States is of great interest to the international community.
