Important news in world medicine — scientists at Harvard University have achieved a major success in the field of Alzheimer’s disease treatment. This severe neurodegenerative illness leads to memory loss, and currently more than 55 million people worldwide suffer from it.
According to the study results, a sharp deterioration in memory is linked to a decrease in the amount of lithium in the brain. Scientists have found that replenishing lithium deficiency can help restore lost memory and halt the progression of the disease.
At present, the research is at the laboratory stage, and scientists plan to conduct clinical trials. If the results are confirmed, the new drug may be produced and introduced into medical practice.
Experts describe this discovery as “a great hope not only for medicine but for humanity as well.” This is because Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of senile dementia, and so far, there has been no way to cure it completely.
