Serious movements are once again being observed on the global political stage. The leaders of the United States and Russia are negotiating the development of a mutual agreement with the aim of ending the armed conflict in Ukraine. Bloomberg agency reported this, citing its sources.
According to the available information, the currently discussed draft agreement is mainly aimed at strengthening the Russian Federation's control over the occupied territories. In particular, Vladimir Putin demands the official recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk (broadly, the entire Donbas), as well as the Crimean Peninsula, as Russian territory.
According to Bloomberg, if these demands are accepted, the Kremlin has expressed readiness to cease military operations along the current front lines in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. Thus, Moscow may agree to reduce tensions in these areas.
At the same time, it is reported that diplomats from Washington and Moscow are preparing for a Trump-Putin meeting expected to take place next week. At the summit, it is planned to discuss precisely these territorial issues and reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, the U.S. administration is also trying to ensure the consent of Ukraine and European allies to this process. However, it is also noted that there are currently no guarantees of reaching such an agreement. The possibility of negotiations ending unsuccessfully is not excluded either.
The goal of this agreement is to freeze combat actions and open the way to launching a long-term peace process. Earlier, Washington officials demanded that Moscow agree to a ceasefire without any conditions and create the necessary environment for negotiations.
In addition, Russian President Putin has repeatedly and openly stated that his military and political goals will remain unchanged. Among his key demands are giving Ukraine neutral status, renouncing NATO membership ambitions, and recognizing Crimea and the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine as part of Russia.
Let us remind that, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, ensuring the country’s territorial integrity is based on firm and inviolable legal grounds. The Kyiv government, firmly rejecting Russia's occupation moves, emphasizes that it does not intend to cede any land. They have also officially stated that they completely reject annexation.
While the political situation is becoming more complex, the international community hopes that these negotiations will lead to a serious breakthrough on the path to mutual agreement. However, for now, this remains only within the scope of possibility.
