In Gaza, children and teenagers continue music lessons. They play guitar and hand drums and sing in old and damaged buildings as well as shelters.
15-year-old Rifan al-Qassas says, “When I play, I feel like I am flying.” Music allows them to escape the hardships of war.
Some students have died because of the war. Teachers preserve old and new instruments and provide some through other displaced people to keep lessons going.
Music gives children not only creative practice but also psychological support. Lessons help them cope with stress, even if just a little.
Lessons are held in different parts of Gaza, inside damaged buildings and shelters. Music serves as a symbol of hope and recovery in their lives.
