A completely new and innovative initiative aimed at improving the city’s sanitation and environmental situation has been implemented in Samarkand. For the first time in the country, modern motor scooters have been introduced into the process of collecting and transporting household waste. This initiative is especially focused on solving the long-standing problem in historical districts and narrow streets.
A new solution for narrow streets
As is known, in the ancient areas of Samarkand the roads are very narrow and some streets are dead ends, making it impossible for large trucks to enter. As a result, waste was not collected on time, causing public dissatisfaction. Following the President’s directive, today the sanitation company “Maroqand Obod” found an effective solution — special electric motor scooters have been launched.
Efficient and economical technology
Currently, 20 motor scooters serve the historical part of Samarkand, covering about 20 neighborhoods. Each scooter makes two trips a day, delivering an average of 9–10 tons of household waste to the transfer station. In the near future, the fleet will be expanded with another 20 new scooters.
The scooters come in two types: fuel-powered and electric. Electric scooters can travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge, requiring charging only once every three days. This is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. Another important point is that the new system will create jobs for 140 unemployed citizens.
A step towards a clean and comfortable environment
The waste collected by the scooters is first taken to local transfer points. Then it is loaded onto large trucks and sent in a compressed form to the central landfill.
This new system contributes not only to timely waste collection but also to improving the city’s sanitation, increasing public satisfaction, and ensuring environmental cleanliness.
The experience launched in Samarkand may serve as an effective model for other cities in the future. Waste collection with electric scooters is considered an important step towards a clean environment and a healthy future.
