12-foot python caught roaming in South Carolina

In South Carolina, a rare 12-foot-long reticulated python was caught on the street, UPI reported. The massive snake had been alarming residents of Newberry County for several weeks.

Local citizens joined the search, including amateur reptile catcher Evan Turner. The python resisted and even knocked one man into the bushes, but was eventually subdued.

The snake's origin remains unknown, as this species is not native to the area. The sheriff suspects it was a pet that was abandoned due to its size. For now, the python is being housed by a man named Warren until a permanent home is found.

Earlier, in St. Petersburg, a pet python named Vasya broke its terrarium and tried to escape, only to get stuck in a metal light fixture. Its owner took it to a vet, where it was freed with minor scratches.

In downtown Los Angeles, reptile hunter Joseph Hart previously captured a 23-foot python with his bare hands after finding it in a trash container — without using any special equipment.
