A third suspect in the Louvre robbery case has been detained and taken into custody, BFMTV reports. His questioning by police investigators is ongoing.
On October 26, two suspects—residents of the suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis—were arrested. One of them was apprehended at Charles de Gaulle airport while attempting to fly to Algeria.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau expressed dissatisfaction over the leak of information regarding the arrests, noting that this interferes with the investigation in which more than a hundred investigators are participating. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez thanked the police for their prompt actions but did not disclose details.
The robbery took place on October 19. Four masked criminals stole eight pieces of 19th-century jewelry.
Their total value is estimated at approximately 102 million dollars. Among the stolen items were the crown and earrings of Queen Maria-Amelia, as well as the crowns of Empress Eugénie.
So far, these items have not been found.
