Mafia dynasty that ruled Myanmar's scamming centers executed in China

The Chinese government has executed four members of the notorious Bai Mafia, who built an empire of cyber fraud in Myanmar's border regions. This is the second major verdict against criminal syndicates in Myanmar in the last week, demonstrating Beijing's determination to completely eliminate online fraud networks.

Collapse of the criminal empire

During a trial in Guangdong province, a group of 21 people was found guilty of fraud, murder, and causing grievous bodily harm to people. The Bai family controlled casinos, brothels, and cyber fraud centers in Laukay, Myanmar, for many years.

  • Clan Number One: The Bai family was considered the most powerful of several criminal groups in Myanmar.
  • Armed structure: Clan leader Bai Suochen had a personal armed unit at his disposal.
  • Closed complexes: The criminal group built 41 closed complexes, where thousands of people were forced into slavery.

Violence and Victims

According to court documents, an atmosphere of brutal violence prevailed in the complexes run by the Bai family. As a result of the criminal actions, six Chinese citizens were killed, one committed suicide, and dozens of people were injured.

Political games and Chinese intervention

The Bai family's rise to power was linked to Min Aung Hlaing, the current head of the military junta in Myanmar. However, in 2023, Beijing, dissatisfied with the inaction of the Myanmar military against criminal groups, supported local insurgents. As a result, the Mafia empire collapsed, and its members were handed over to China.

International problem: Modern slavery

According to UN estimates, hundreds of thousands of people in Southeast Asia have been forcibly involved in online fraud schemes. Through scam centers, criminal syndicates generate billions of dollars in revenue annually, with the majority of victims being Chinese.

Today's executions are seen not only as punishment for the Bay family but also as a serious warning to other fraudulent groups in the region.

In your opinion, can such severe punitive measures stop cyber fraud on an international scale?
