
A terrorist attack occurred near the district court building in Islamabad at 12:39 PM local time. According to the BBC, the incident resulted in 12 fatalities and 27 injuries.
According to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the attacker had planned to enter the court complex but was forced to detonate the bomb near a police vehicle. Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack.
"Lawyers and people ran into the court complex," said Rustam Malik, a lawyer who was parking his car near the court building at the time of the incident. Burnt vehicles and heightened security measures could be observed at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing "total chaos" at the site and described people fleeing in panic.
