The drone conflict around Putin's residence has sparked new debates

On the night of December 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted a mass drone attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region. The Russian side claims that a total of 91 drones were involved in the airstrike, and all of them were destroyed by air defense systems.

This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He emphasized that such actions by the Kyiv side are "crazy" and will not go unanswered. According to Lavrov, the targets and execution times for the return shots are predetermined.

At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that Moscow does not intend to withdraw from the negotiations with the US on the Ukraine issue, but that Russia's position in the negotiations will be reconsidered against the backdrop of these events. He described Kyiv as a "regime that has transitioned to the policy of state terrorism" and drew attention to the fact that this attack occurred precisely during the active dialogue between Russia and the USA.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, categorically denied information from the Russian side regarding the "attack on Putin's residence." He called Lavrov's statement another lie and emphasized that Moscow is trying to create a pretext for new strikes through such claims.

According to Zelenskyy, through these claims, Russia is trying to justify possible attacks on government buildings in Kyiv. He recalled the September missile strike on the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers building and warned that the scenario could be repeated.

Thus, contradictory statements surrounding the drone attack indicate an escalation of the information and political confrontation between Russia and Ukraine. The development of events may lead to new decisive steps in the military and diplomatic arena in the coming days.
