World's Billionaires Concentration: Updated City Rankings

Where the world's billionaires are concentrated: updated city rankings

By 2025, it has once again been confirmed that the greatest wealth in the world is increasingly concentrated around major metropolises. A new infographic has ranked the 20 leading cities globally based on the number of billionaires residing in them, providing a clear picture of the global geography of wealth.

The visual data was presented by Forbes magazine, which relies on its annual ranking of the world’s richest people. This information highlights where wealth is concentrated and which cities have become financial magnets.

New York — the undisputed leader

New York ranks first in the list by a significant margin, home to 109 billionaires. This dominant position is no coincidence: decades of financial leadership, flows of global capital, investment funds, major banks, the real estate market, and the headquarters of multinational corporations converging here have turned New York into a hub of wealth.

No city rivals New York in terms of “billionaire density.” The second-ranked city, Hong Kong, lags behind by over 30 billionaires, further underscoring the unique status of the American metropolis in the global wealth ecosystem.

Moscow and Asian metropolises

Moscow ranks third with 73 billionaires. The Russian capital remains a significant wealth hub due to major industrial, energy, and financial resources.

A substantial part of the rankings is made up of Asian cities. Mumbai, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, and Shenzhen are all in the top ten. China stands out particularly with several cities—Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou—demonstrating how rapidly wealth is growing in the nation.

India and the new wave of wealth

India is also noteworthy. The cities of Mumbai and Delhi reflect the rapid growth of the national billionaire class. This development is linked to fast economic growth, a massive domestic market, as well as strong positions in technology, manufacturing, and services sectors.

Europe and the US: traditional strongholds remain robust

Despite Asia’s growing role, traditional wealth centers in Europe and North America continue to remain competitive. London, Paris, and Milan are still among the cities with highly concentrated wealthy populations.

Cities like Dallas, Chicago, and Palm Beach, which are outside the top 20, illustrate how wealth in the US is distributed between finance, technology, energy, and real estate hubs. Meanwhile, more compact yet influential locales like Palo Alto vividly showcase the significant role of the technology sector in creating new fortunes.

Conclusion

Overall, the new rankings show that the global wealth map is gradually shifting towards Asia. However, traditional financial giants such as New York are unlikely to relinquish their leadership anytime soon. Wealth competition is now increasingly taking place not just between nations, but at the city level.
